Uploading textures and using UUID's
From SnowcrashDigital Wiki
Hermes & Textures
When you publish CDs with the Hermes system, you need to add a texture to each song. This texture will be on the player's display whenever that song is played. You can also use the texture on the cover of the album you publish.
Please note: The players show one texture for each song, while the cover of your album will only have a single "cover" texture.
When uploading textures:
- Use a 512x512 pixels texture to display on the players. This guarantees the maximum quality, even when a player is made really big by its user.
- use a 256x256 pixels texture for the cover of your album. The albums are hardly ever resized by the user, and this guarantees a quick load of the texture when the user rezzes the album.
Uploading textures
To upload a texture:
- Go to file > upload texture or use Control+U
- In Viewer 2 go to Build > Upload > Image
- Select the file on your hard drive
- Click upload (or Open)
- The texture will by default be placed in your inventory in the folder "textures".
If you want to upload multiple textures at once, go to file > bulk upload. (In Viewer 2 Build > Upload > Bulk)
Please note: Uploading textures costs you 10 Linden Dollars/texture.
Using UUID's
Each "asset" (this can be a texture, object, animation,...) has a UUID in Second Life. This is an unique code. When you want to use a texture on the player's display when a certain song is played, you'll need to add it's UUID to the track in the web control panel. To do so, follow these steps:
- Look up the texture in your Second Life inventory
- Right click the texture, and select "Copy Asset UUID" (Screenshot 1 + 3)
- Go to the web control panel, edit the song, and paste the UUID (Control + V) in the texture field. (Screenshot 2)
- After a few seconds the texture will load in the image preview on the right of the screen.
