"Boxing items" is the most used way to package items in Second life; you can put several objects/note cards/landmarks in one item. This item (the box) can be transferred to other avatars in Second Life, who can then open the box and copy the contents of it to their inventories.

Creating your box

Please note: You need to be on a parcel where you are allowed to rez/build.

First we need to build a box:

  • Right-click on the ground, select "create" in the pie-menu
  • Click on the ground, by default you'll create a cube. (in this example we'll use this cube as your first box)

Secondly, we'll put the things you want to sell in the box:

  • Edit the box (right click it, and select edit)
  • In the edit window, go to the contents tab. (Screenshot 1).
  • Drag 'n' drop the items you want to sell from your inventory to the contents of the box
  • Wait a few seconds, the content tab will reload, and you'll see the items you just drag'n'dropped into it.

Afterwards, let's make the box easily recognizable and easy to unpack by your clients:

  • Go to the "General Tab" in the edit object window (Screenshot 2)
  • Fill in a clear name and description. (End your name with "-boxed", this is common in Second Life, and makes it clear to the user that they need to unpack in order to be able to use)
  • Set the default click action to "open". That way, when someone rezzes your box and clicks it, they will immediately be able to copy the contents to his inventory.
  • Make sure the permissions are at least set to "modify". Otherwise the next owner will not be able to get the objects out of the box.
