Hermes CD Packaging Manual
From SnowcrashDigital Wiki
OK - all ready to go? Tested your masterpiece with your player and your friends? Now it's time to spread your tune across the metaverse.
A couple of things to remember before you do.
Your album is a self contained object - which means you can sell it, vend it or give it away without any problems, however you will need to also give away a player. In the box is a bundled MP3 player which you are free to give away to your listeners with your albums.
Packaging other items with your album
You may want to giveaway other items with your album, landmarks, bios, lyrics etc - simply drop them into your album (via the contents tab in edit mode). They will be offered to the user via the More menu when the disc is opened.
Packaging Pre-flight Check
Your package should contain the following items:-
- Your Album
- A player and media switch
- A readme file (Optional but advised) explaining how to set the player up - feel free to use our documentation to create your own, an example readme file is contained in the Free Player carton.
Hints and Tips
- When web linking files on your own server, do not use file names with spaces in them
- Test the album with friends, once you're happy, test again! - also feel free to send us a copy for testing
- When putting textures in as album artwork, keep it to a maximum of 256 pixels wide or deep - it assists the load time
- Check your sample rates - for most purposes a 128kps MP3 file is plenty good enough
- Use the built In MP3 Player to test playback
- Keep the package clean, by that we mean - dont load the box with goodies, textures and ‘stuff’ - make it easy for your customer to navigate the carton. Your album object can distribute all your ‘stuff’ via its More Menu.
- Check your perms - remember, if the album is set to Copy /Transfer, it can be given or even sold by the next owner.
