Deeding the media switch
From SnowcrashDigital Wiki
When you're on group owned land (which is mostly the case in Second Life), you'll need to "deed" the media switch.
Please note: If the land isn't group owned, you don't need to deed the mediaswitch! Important: Never deed the actual MP3-Player or you may lose control of some of the features

Rez the media switch
- Make sure you have the right group tag active
- Make sure there are enough prims available on the parcel
- The media switch needs to be on the same parcel as the player
Please note: In most cases the media switch isn't immediately able to control parcel media. (because it needs to be deeded). The message "Hermes Media Switch - 7.2: Unable to control media on this parcel. As this land is group owned, please deed this media switcher to the group that owns the parcel" is perfectly normal on initial rezz.
Deeding the media switch
- Once rezzed, right click the media switch and select "edit"
- Open the general tab in the edit window. (See screenshot 1)
- Make the "share with group" option active (See screenshot 1)
Now there are two possible scenarios:
- The "deed"-button lights up, and you can click it. Do so. (See screenshot 1)
- The "deed"-button lights up, but you can't click it. Please read below.
Media switch deeding - trouble shooting
You're not able to click the "deed"-button:
- Check if the land settings allow "deed to group" on that parcel. Go to World > About land
- Check if your group tag & rights allow you to deed to group. Go to your communication window, select the group, click the info button and check your rights in the "roles"-tab
- Check if you have set the object to the right group. It needs to be in the same group as the parcel is in order to be able to deed the media switch on that parcel.
In most cases, a friendly IM to the group owner/land owner will solve all above scenarios.
Please note: Once the media switch is deeded to group, you'll probably not be able to move it anymore. (in most groups members can't move group owned stuff). Therefore, please ask your landlord to set the media switch to "Everyone may move this object". Important: If all else fails - send a copy of the media switch to your landlord and ask them to rez it on the same parcel within 10m of your player for you.
Success
When the media switch is ready-to-go, it'll confirm that it's set up properly:
- The red colored top will change to black/white (depending on the version you have)
- The media switch will tell you in local chat. (e.g. Hermes Media Switch - 7.2: Ready)
